by:  Don Precour, 2017 MMLA President

It’s hard to believe how fast they year has flown by!!   Seems like yesterday that I gave my speech as incoming President of the MMLA.   That was almost 1 year ago, and I am already making plans for my “good bye” speech I will be giving on November 9 at the President’s Installation Banquet.  The event will be held in the Sound Board at Motor City Casino in Detroit.  We expect a huge crowd as we honor MMLA leadership and recognize our annual award winners!  See the article in this newsletter for all the details.  I encourage you all register to attend, bring your staff and/or customers.  Please consider sponsoring to get recognition by the MMLA leadership and key players in the Michigan mortgage industry.  I hope to see you there!

It’s been a great summer of networking and meeting new friends through the MMLA! I especially enjoyed attending the Annual Lending Conference for the first time ever. J Congrats to the committee on their success with coordinating a dynamic speaker panel and conference activities (and for ordering up perfect weather)! We look forward to seeing everyone at the Presidential Installation in November and Holiday Party in December. A big thank you to our members’ continued support including attending/sponsoring events, generous donations toward our advocacy efforts, especially MORBANPAC, and annual dues renewal which all keep our valued association thriving. Side note: Keep in mind the MMLA is offering Chapter Partnerships http://mmla.net/Get_Involved_Chapter_Partnerships which allows members to purchase advertising, education, and event sponsorships at a significantly discounted rate for all local chapter events. This exciting and new opportunity can be purchased any time of the year and run a full 12-month period. Mid Chapter News

The Mid Chapter Upcoming Events
Cynthia Garza
Mid Chapter President
Union Home Mortgage Company

We finished August with the annual MMLA/WCR golf outing.  We struggled with a little bit of rain, but for the most part it was a great event with very high attendance.  It is always nice to see Realtors and Lenders take time out to share some good time together outside of the offices.  Shout out to Andy Garza and the fantastic golf committee for the endless hours they spent coordinating and planning to make it a wonderful event.

Our next event is a luncheon on October 12th with Steve Richman from Genworth Financial as our guest speaker.  This will be a MORBANPAC lunch with all proceeds being donated to the MMLA’s PAC.  We have a fun event also planned on November 2nd with our local area Crime Stoppers.  This event is being held at a shooting range with the opportunity to shoot afterward.

With the industry being down 22% overall we, in the Mid-chapter, are working hard to finish the third quarter strong

Who, What, Where...Social Newsletter

We hope you enjoy this social section of the MMLA  newsletter...the Who, What, Why....  There is so much going on in our industry and it is sometimes hard to keep track of job changes, promotions, new hires, etc.  The social aspect of our business plays a key role in MMLA membership.  Members who build relationships with other members and participate in local social and luncheon events get more value from their membership.

So, if you have an announcement to make - a new hire, a job change, office relocation, a honor or award you received, etc. - please email the information to mmla@mmla.net and you may see it in an upcoming issue of Who, What, Why....  We will even accept "just for fun" stuff like industry related jokes, cartoons and special "talents" or funny facts that people may not know about you...forward them as well.

Congratulations to Mike Fontana, Guaranteed Rate, for being awarded the Knights of Columbus Council 7200 Knight of the Year for 2016 - 2017!!

Congratulations to Katrina Cole, Inlanta Mortgage, for being recognized as one of the "Elite Women of Inlanta Mortgage".  She was also recognized by NMP as one of "The Most Connected Mortgage Pros in the Business"!!

Congratulations to John Jacobs, Maddin, Hauser, Roth & Heller, for receiving the William Davidson Lifetime Achievement Award by the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit.

Mortgage Builder will be hosting a Habitat Build September 27th and/or September28th  at a location in Southfield.  The hours are from 8:30 to 3:30 each day.  If you would like to join the Mortgage Builder staff and volunteer your time and services to help with this build, contact Melissa Kozicki, Director of Compliance at melissa@mortgagebuilder.com.

As you aware, new reporting rules adopted by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFBP) require financial institutions that have Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA) reporting requirements to start reporting Unique Loan Identifiers (ULIs) for reportable transactions (applications or loan activities) that occur in 2018. The entity specific component of the ULI is the Legal Entity Identifier (LEI).

An LEI is a unique code that identifies a legal entity and will be required for financial institutions with HMDA reporting requirements.   To help you comply with HMDA and the new LEI requirements, please see the image linked here of the LEI Compliance Sheet from MERSCORP Holdings defining an LEI and introducing you to the new LEI registration, renewal and maintenance services to mortgage industry participants.
