President's Report

From the President's Desk

By:  Todd Potter, CMB
2019 MMLA President
Level One Bank

Happy 2019 to our MMLA membership!!

First and foremost, I want to thank Jim Wickham, CMB for his leadership in 2018.  His experience and guidance throughout his tenure on the Board of the MMLA has been invaluable over the past few years.  Cheers to your accomplishments and well done.

I want to also extend my gratitude for our volunteer board that we have each year at the MMLA, with a special welcome to Deborah Herdman as our 2019 Secretary/Treasurer.  We have a solid and balanced team that have made several accomplishments over the past couple years from which to build upon in 2019.  Results matter.  The only way we achieve those results is by having core leadership at the chapter level – every year.  Our Chapter Presidents for 2019:  Julie Bacon (West), Nicki VanLake (Mid) and Maureen Townson (Southeast) – and their teams have already shown plenty of energy in scheduling events in January and February.   Of course, none of this happens without the glue of our organization - Joanne Misuraca and Trinity Lancione!  When one becomes an officer of the MMLA, you will not truly understand the commitment they bring every day to the MMLA.  I’ve been fortunate to attend many events from other state organizations throughout the country.  The body of work by Joanne and Trinity is the envy of many and we are privileged to have both representing the MMLA.

As Jim indicated during his farewell speech, a few years the BOD (led by Past-Presidents Marc Reneau and Don Precor) began a process re-writing our bylaws so that we can better shape the future of the MMLA.  With that plan in place, that responsibility now shifts to the leadership teams of today and tomorrow to be a better resource for our membership and the homeowner/consumer that we ultimately represent.  We should be a better resource in a couple areas:

  • Expand our role in Housing Finance with a more robust & active relationships with both the Michigan Realtor Association and the Home Builders Association of Michigan
  • Our Mortgage Broker community needs to have a voice in Michigan. This statewide community of mortgage professionals have only engaged at the national level for the past several years.  We need active leadership from this community to help provide the needed direction to engage activity and advise on content specific to their needs - at both the chapter and state events

Education Committee Update
Audrey Acquisti, MMLA Education Consultant
MSource Training & Consulting

Join your fellow MMLA members as we host the 2019 Sales Symposium on Tuesday, March 19, 2019, at the Suburban Collections Showplace in Novi.  The theme for this years’ Sales Symposium is technology.  Technology plays a major role today in supporting all aspects of the selling function.  Benefits include improved relationships with customers and improved processes of finding qualified prospects and turning them into customers. Technology improves the sales communications process and supports effective presentation of products and services.  Understanding available technologies used in selling functions to make your sales organization more effective.   Sales managers need to become great coaches who can help their salespeople improve how they sell.  Selling is about developing relationships and todays’ technology tools are there to enhance how we provide value to our customers and our sales teams.

Our speaker lineup this year is AWESOME!  Scott Hudspeth from the Mortgage Marketing Animals/Agent Mastermind will discuss how to use social media to get noticed, reach out to customers, follow-up on sales leads and build a following.  Pat Hartford, VP of Technology at Quicken Loans will discuss technology changes that are, and will continue, to change our industry.  Dan Morales, Northpointe Bank, will show us how to use video to communicate with our customers…before during, and after a sale, how to stand out in the Inbox, and what brings real value to your realtor referral base.  Ginger Bell, a national speaker and trainer, will show us how to differentiate ourselves and maintain trust in this ever-changing world of mortgage marketing.

Your education committee is working hard to secure technology vendors of all shapes and sizes to exhibit at this great event.  Feel free to provide Joanne or myself with contact information for any vendor you feel would be a great fit for this event and we will most certainly reach out to them.   Click here for sponsor/exhibitor info.

Happy New Year and see you in March!

Greetings Fellow MMLA members! I am energized and honored to be your SE Chapter President for 2019.  Thank you Kirk King, 2018 Chapter President, for your leadership, guidance and encouragement.

I have an excellent Leadership Team in Place for the upcoming year.  Paula Rosneck, Essent Guaranty, is Chapter Vice President while Dawn Burdick, Titleocity is Social Committee Chair. Luncheons are Co-chaired by Mike Fontana, Guaranteed Rate and Brian McCown, Ross Mortgage.  The Golf Committee is co-chaired by Steve Scheel of Croskey, Lanni P.C. and Victoria DeLuce of Success Mortgage Partners.  The Holiday Party is chaired by Victoria DeLuce, Success Mortgage Partners. THANK YOU all for  giving your time and talents to the MMLA.

We had a kickoff meeting December 11, 2018 to brainstorm and lay out our calendar of events.  The team’s goal is to bring fun, fresh events, keep cost reasonable, deliver valuable content and give back to local charities we can impact.

In 2019 you will to hear market insight from local experts, check out emerging venues, get in a great round of golf with customers all while mingling with like-minded professionals.  If you’d like to help out a little or a lot, feel free to reach out to me at Maureen.townson@genworth.com or call (248)245-2950.  I promise you will receive more than you give from your participation in the SE Chapter.  Many of us started helping out at an event or 2.  Any level of participation is welcome!

As you map out your 2019, make sure you invest in your business (ask that elusive realtor to our golf outing!) invest in yourself (TopGolf, anyone?) and try something new (if you put holiday decorations up November 1, we’d love your input for the Holiday Party !). I look forward to seeing everyone at future MMLA SE chapter events!

Holiday Party Committee Chairperson
Arch Mortgage Insurance Co.

Well, another year in the books.  We had the annual MMLA West Chapter Holiday Party on Thursday December 6th at a NEW Venue, THE PADDACK PLACE 1033 Lake Dr. SE., Grand Rapids, MI. We had a great attendance, strolling dinner that was enjoyed by all, a photo booth to capture the evening fun, good holiday cheer and an evening enjoyed by everyone.

The chance raffle was a great success with $5,000 of the proceeds going to this year’s charity, The Well House www.wellhousegr.org.  So everyone that participated can feel good about taking a chance on the chance raffle because all of the proceeds will go directly to The Well House.

Thanks again to our Sponsors!! This party would not have been as successful without the generosity of our Sponsors and thank you to all that attended.  Mark your calendars now for the annual MMLA West Chapter Holiday Party in 2019.  To be held on Thursday December 5, 2019 again at   THE PADDACK PLACE 1033 LAKE DR. S.E. GRAND RAPIDS, MI!!

WOW, what a fun night! here are some pics from the party. Go to the West Chapter facebook page to see them all!

Thank you again to Party Time Booth, Bill Hanenburg, for all these great photos. To download your images for re-print go to: https://bill12345.smugmug.com/MMLA-Christmas-Party/ .
