2020:   Continue the inclusivity charge!

As I was thinking about MMLA in 2020 and what I want to focus on, I go all the way back to a ‘broker listening lunch’ we had in February of 2019, where our intent was to ensure all mortgage professionals have a voice, a sense of belonging and find value in the Michigan Mortgage Lenders Association.    So, I want to continue with the inclusivity charge into next year and beyond. 

We are not realtors – we are not one size fit all.   We are mortgage industry professionals, mortgage brokers, wholesale, correspondent and secondary lenders.  We are big banks, we are regional, community banks.  We are Credit Unions, big and small.

Take this a step further – we are officers, operations, leaders, sales representatives, account executives, appraisers, title partners, insurance agents, affordable housing and PMI partners.   

We need each other to continue the fight for homeownership.   I just read an article this week estimating over 8.3 Million first time home buyers will be purchasing a home between 2020 and 2022.    And, if rates stay relatively low as Freddie Mac is predicting for the next 2 years, we may continue with our current repurchasing wave (yes, I know it’s called refinancing).

We must continue to be relevant, valuable, proactive and evolving with the needs of our members.  We also need to be the voice for homeowners across the state of Michigan.   I am honored to walk with this organization through the next year as your State President and continue to listen to our members, keeping top of mind: education, legislation, advocacy, sales and networking!

That is what is so great about this association – the more members, the louder our voice, the stronger we are!

Legislative & MORBANPAC Committee News

MORBANPAC Update

2020 MORBANPAC Chairman

2020, just like 2018, will be an impactful year regarding the political landscape for the State of Michigan – AND WE NEED YOUR PARTICIPATION.  Last year, MORBANPAC received $12,687 in contributions from 25 of our members combined with 50-50 contributions during chapter events.  In 2020, we will need a more balanced commitment from our members to reach our $35,000 goal.  In the next few weeks, you will receive details of a couple initiatives we plan to introduce to our members so that we can reach our goal for 2020.  Pay it forward everyone.

Annual Lending Conference

Annual Lending Conference Update

Make your plans now to attend the MLa's biggest and best event of the year - the Annual Lending Conference..  It will be held August 12 - 14 at the Amway Grand Hotel and Conference Center in Grand Rapids, MI.

We already have some great speakers confirmed and are working on getting the full line-up finalized soon.  We have some great fun "extra" events planned too.   We will also have a "educaiton only" registration option so you can invite your staff for the day of meetings!  Stay tuned for more updates coming to your email and our webiste!

Mid Chapter News

Mid Chapter MMLA President's Corner

It’s been a great end to 2019 for the Mid Chapter!  We held our holiday party at High Caliber Go-karting. Lots of fun was had by all, including axe throwing and a competitive round of go karting. Thank you to all who donated a toy to the Child and Family Services. Along with the toys, over $170 was donated to Child and Family Services from our raffle giveaway as well.

The Mid Chapter would enjoy seeing everyone at our January 8^th event to support our 2020 MMLA President, Denya Macaluso. The luncheon is being held at Beggars Banquet, East Lansing. Come and hear Denya talk about her MMLA goals and answer any questions from the group. Our February 12th event will be joint with WCR at Reno’s East Lansing. More details about this networking event will be coming out soon.

The SE Chapter Golf outing is always a great event and we look to continue and grow that tradition in 2020! The initial planning has already started and the outing scheduled for the first week in June.

West Chapter News

West Chapter President's Update

2020 West Chapter President

The West Chapter capped off 2019 with a successful Holiday party.  The food was good and the company fantastic!  We were able to raise enough funds to donate to our charity, Family Promise, $5000.00 toward the purchase of new home for a homeless family here in the West Michigan area!  How exciting for us, who work to help people achieve and thrive with the goal of home ownership to help put a deserving family in a home of their own and help them on their way!

This year we have employed West Chapter Ambassadors.  These are members of the lending community that are looking to become more involved with the MMLA and one day take on a leadership role.  Our ambassadors will be registering attendees at each event, be “super conductors” at each meeting as well as spreading the word and helping to increase membership.

We are looking forward to a prosperous and fun 2020!
