Mark Your Path for a Strong Future in the Mortgage Industry!

The MMLA Future Leaders Program is an exclusive opportunity that enables participants to build their knowledge of the mortgage industry and leadership skills through on-line learning, collaboration, and peer group interactions. Class participants can be any MMLA Member who wants to grow their business and advance their mortgage industry career!  To enhance the learning and networking experience, participants will be selected on a limited basis, so submit your application by June 30. 

Here is an overview of our 6 classes:
1) Industry History & The Mortgage Industry Puzzle  This course will briefly explore the history of the mortgage industry, with a focus on the development of the mortgage banking and government legislation/regulation in housing finance. Also included is a discussion on how all the courses in this program fit together to give a complete picture of the “mortgage puzzle”.

2) Production  This course will discuss the different channels of mortgage origination - retail, wholesale and correspondent.  It will include the issues/challenges surrounding the successful origination of mortgage loans in the market. Also, the back-office support and systems surrounding processing, underwriting and closing will be discussed.

3) Underwriting  The course will cover effective underwriting for default risk management and the avoidance of buybacks. This will include conventional as well as government loans in today’s environment with regard to QM, Fair Lending and Disparate Impact.

4) Secondary Marketing and Servicing  In this course, participants will learn how the secondary market function works to develop pricing for various products from investor sources, as well as lender portfolios.  It will also deal with the complex issues of servicing mortgage loans from the point of funding through payoff.  Included will be the overlays of industry regulations from the federal as well as state and local governments.

5) Compliance and Regulatory Agencies  This extremely important course will focus on understanding and working effectively within the framework of federal and state regulations as well as meeting consumer and market needs. As compliance has taken on a whole new meaning in these last few years and will continue to evolve beyond today.  It will also current state of the legislative and regulatory environment at both the federal and state levels. Time will be allocated to the future of this with the impact of the FHFA and the CFPB on the mortgage industry for lenders and vendors alike.

6) The Big Picture: Management/Leadership/Ethics  Leading in today’s environment is both challenging and dynamic! The solutions are identifying and implementing key leadership skills within an ethical framework. In this final course in the program, we will identify and discuss key leadership skills that impact the bottom line, along with an interactive discussion on ethics. The instructor will discuss our industry’s place in the economy.

The MMLA "Rising Star" Recognition Program!

The Michigan Mortgage Lenders Association’s (MMLA) Rising Star Award is a prestigious designation that is awarded to the “Rising Stars” of the Michigan mortgage industry. As the mortgage industry continues to evolve, the MMLA recognizes the importance of having industry leaders involved to continue moving the mortgage industry forward. Past winners have been loan officers, branch managers, marketing coordinators, title company representatives and others, representing all aspects of the mortgage industry. 

The MMLA is seeking nominations for this annual award which recognizes MMLA members who are achievers based on factors such as commitment to the industry, growth and advancement in position, awards and accolades, philanthropic successes, impact on the mortgage industry in Michigan, and participation in MMLA events and committees. Winners will be announced at the Annual Lending Conference in August and will be honored at the Annual Installation Banquet in November.   

Winners will be awarded a pass to attend ALL MMLA events during the year as well as paid registration and travel to the MBA National Advocacy Conference in DC.  This is a valued investment in our Rising Stars and we hope it will encourage MMLA participation and possibly future leadership of the MMLA.

Michigan House Supports Telling Newspapers To Make Legal Ad Available Online
